63% OF NIGERIA’S POPULATION ARE POOR.

Last week, the National Bureau of Statistics released a report saying 133 million Nigerians are poor.

This report was not released by IMF, World Bank, UN or TI, else some paid Government officials would have rushed to the media to defend what is not defendable.

Truth is, very many Nigerians aren’t faring well and some of those reading this broadcast fall in that category, sadly.

What were the variables for this report?

  1. Lack of access of proper healthcare
  2. Lack of access to good education
  3. Poor standard of living
  4. Unemployment

According to the report, those in that 133 million Nigerians are classified so because they fall into more than one of the above variables.

What of those who are poor by only one of the variables in the remaining 37% of Nigerians?

I ask this question for the umpteenth time, why have State Governors mismanaged State generated resources and FG subvention even when FG doesn’t owe any state their monthly allocation?

If these Governors are to judiciously account for all monies received per state, wouldn’t it be fair to say most of them failed?

A sitting Governor in an opposition party was recognised and awarded the best Governor in Infrastructure by the President of the Country, meaning no State Governor in the ruling party came close to clinching that award. Food for thought!

Government especially at the State level have contributed to impoverishing its citizens, yes Ogbeni Emefiele no try as per Economic Policies, he scored so low, but he is obviously serving some political interests with the handwriting on the wall, else why will a Serving CBN Governor be so audacious to want to contest the Presidential Primaries of the ruling party and he wasn’t fired?

He even went to Court to enforce his right but he lost and still retained his seat.

Nigeria’s case is indeed multi-dimensional, no wonder the poverty is even multi-dimensional.
You don’t even want to know the Corruption Perception Index(CPI). You will weep for how low we have descended as a Country, yet some salary earning Minister or hungry looking party chieftain will come on National TV and say we are doing well.
