NOW THAT A GREATER PERCENTAGE OF NIGERIANS ARE POOR, WHAT NEXT?

The current Poverty Trap Report also recently released showed that 4 in 10 Nigerians are living in one form of poverty or the other. This is different from those who are multi-dimensionally poor.

The burden of these poor Nigerians are being carried by the Nigerians who are families, friends and acquitances probably. This is so heavy a burden because of the kind of communal living we are culturally known for. How long can you look away when a family member, a neighbour, or a friend is poor and needs a support?

You will have to show some kind of support from your own income which may not be sufficiently enough for you and your immediate family.

Have you noticed from the report by NBS that Northern Nigeria where the greatest part of this Government Social Intervention have been done happens to still be the poorest part of Nigeria? This is sad but not surprising because, handouts can never solve the problem of poverty. All the Social Intervention claimed to have been done have not yielded the desired result. It has also become a conduit pipe for mismanagement and misappropriation of resources.

Amongst the Niger Delta States in Nigeria that have gotten their arrears of 13% Derivation from Federal Government, what have these Governors done with the money?

Have you thought of why the State Governors after their tenures are picked up by the Antigraft Agencies to answer questions, but the President of the Country is never picked or interrogated?

Our State Governors are our major problem.
