MENTOR-MENTEE DYNAMICS Part-2

ALLOW YOUR MENTOR-MENTEE RELATIONSHIP TO GROW ORGANICALLY.

Continuing from where we stopped yesterday, we had established that the role of a Mentor is key and critical to the growth and development of individuals in any sphere of life. You may want to read yesterday’s post again.

Today, I have seen some people who want to start today and get to the peak of cordiality immediately with their Mentors. The growth is gradual, it is one step at a time and it should weather human storms that comes with such growth.

Many claim to be mentees of a particular Mentors but do not have a singular resource of the Mentor be it hard copy or soft copy. Some just want to scramble to take pictures with a Mentor for the purpose of show off. These kinds of mentees are either ignorant or simply lack decorum and want to abuse access to a mentor.

Once you claim someone is your Mentor, you must normalise that some people are before you and have grown, you can’t attract same attention as such persons. Stay in the lane where you are placed while you keep growing.

Mentoring or Mentorship is a huge sacrifice, as it progresses, your Mentor will even want to demand accountability from you, but some aren’t ready.

Whether it is the Traditional One-On-One Mentoring or Distance Mentoring or even the Group Mentoring, just ensure the rules are obeyed.

By virtue of what many of us do, we serve as Mentors to alot of people we don’t even know and may never come across in our life time. Just keep being a solution provider and an inspiration.

As this series continues, kindly identify one or two of those you consider as a Mentor and celebrate them. It could be a gift, a word, a visit, just something appreciative, truth is, some may just realise for the first time that they are your Mentors. This act will speak volume and go a long way.
