DO YOU KNOW WHAT MAKES UP A CAREER?
A career is a long-term professional journey, a progression of jobs within a specific field, driven by growth, learning, and the pursuit of goals, rather than just a temporary job to earn money. It encompasses your education, training, and experiences gained from various paid and unpaid roles over a significant portion of your life.
Therefore, your career is not defined by just one thing.
It is the intersection of three key elements:
📍Talents/Gifts – Your natural strengths and abilities.
📍Skills – What you’ve learned and developed through training and practice.
📍Experiences – What you’ve gained from real-world hands-on practice.
For example, you studied Electrical Engineering but ended up getting a first job in Banking. You liked it, you went ahead to have a postgraduate in Management and started attending trainings and short courses in the field of banking. These enhanced your interest more, and you kept building experience. You are gradually building a career in banking and probably forgotten that you studied something totally different.
The Engineering course may not have paid you, but a career choice has paid you and made you in life.
The unfortunate thing is that many don’t know their career path. They are just earning and drawing salaries, “ka sa jeun,” meaning let’s just survive.
We aren’t just wired to be doing something boring and pick bills, we are meant to make and create impact.
Many are doing jobs that are totally unrelated to what they studied or plan to do and not building a career yet as long as it’s paying their bills for now.
You can as well decided to do a total career shift and start building something else from scratch.
Try making an impact, a life-long career.
